What Fate Cards Are
Fate Cards are the permanent meta progression system of Neon Abyss 2. Once unlocked, a card is active from the very first room of every run, functioning as a persistent opening buff that follows you into the Abyss each time. The system pairs with the in-run Faith system: Faith is a resource you build and spend inside a single run, while Fate Cards are a one-time unlock that pays off forever.
Fate Cards are not available from the start. You must light the Weaving Fate node on page 1 of the Evolve Tree and restore the statue of the Goddess of Fate before the system activates.
The game left Early Access and launched in 1.0 on October 8, 2026 (PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch), and the Fate Point cap shown in the card interface has grown with content updates — the UI has displayed as many as 13 Fate Points. Beyond the cards analysed below, Veewo has not published the unlock conditions or point costs of the remaining cards.
Fate Points: Sources and Efficiency
Fate Points are the currency you spend to unlock and enable Fate Cards. Every source sits on the Evolve Tree, and each one scales very differently between the early and late game:
| Source node | Page | Effect | Early-game efficiency | Late-game value |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mercy of Fate | 1 | Stacking points per defeat: +2 on Easy, +1 on Normal; resets to zero after a cleared run, inactive on Hard and Abyss | Extreme (snowballs during loss streaks) | Zero (useless at high difficulty) |
| Gift of Clotho | 2 | +1 starting Fate Point on all difficulties | Medium (page 1 must be finished first) | Permanent +1 |
| Gift of Lachesis | 3 | +1 starting Fate Point on all difficulties | Medium | Permanent +1 |
| Gift of Atropos | 4 | +1 starting Fate Point on all difficulties | Low (high unlock gate) | Permanent +1 |
| Other sources (drops, tasks, etc.) | — | Veewo has not published details | — | — |
TIP
Mercy of Fate is a catch-up mechanic at its core: it snowballs while you are losing streaks, but a single cleared run zeroes it, and it does nothing on Hard or Abyss. Take one level early as a transition tool for a fresh save — once you can reliably clear Normal, the three Gift nodes are the long-term Fate Point engine, worth a combined +3 starting points on every difficulty.
Every Published Fate Card, Analysed
Three cards have been confirmed through official UI and coverage. Each is broken down below.
Adorable Companion
- Effect: Start every run with 2 Hatchmon pets already hatched.
- Archetype fit: Elise is the natural pairing. Her signature weapon Warming fires a bonus homing round every 5 shots and grows stronger per Hatchmon in your squad, so pet count converts directly into DPS. Her signature companion Kiddy cannot be fused but revives KO'd Hatchmon nearby, keeping the squad alive.
- Chain value: Hatching 8 Hatchmon across runs (cumulative, not per run) unlocks Elise herself. Combined with the Faith Agapeism's "guaranteed hatching" effect, a pet build comes online extremely fast.
- Priority: ★★★★★. This is the engine of any pet run — and even if you never play pets, it is worth slotting purely to grind Elise unlock progress, +2 per save file per run.
- Signature scenario: During your first 10 hours the goal is opening the Agent roster, and this card banks steady progress toward that every run.
Full of Energy
- Effect: Start every run with 2 shields.
- Archetype fit: Low-HP Agents gain the most — Xuan, James, and Saya all start at 2 hearts, so 2 shields effectively double your floor-1 error budget. It also fits any Agent during the learning phase of a new save.
- Priority: ★★★★☆. The most universally useful of the three cards: it binds to no build and is never dead value.
- Signature scenario: Reaching the floor 1 boss without a single shield item drop — those 2 shields are effectively an extra life.
Fire Support
- Effect: Start each run with a weapon provided.
- Archetype fit: James — his unlock is tied to the number of weapons used. Challenge rooms always drop weapons and shops sell them, but this card adds a weapon source that does not depend on map RNG.
- Priority: ★★★☆☆. Mandatory if you are grinding unlock progress; mediocre for general clears. For the remaining acquisition routes (weapon rooms, shops, challenge rooms), Veewo has not published exact rates.
- Signature scenario: Running low-difficulty clears specifically to farm James progress — this card banks a guaranteed +1 weapon-used per run.
| Card | One-line role | Priority |
|---|---|---|
| Adorable Companion | Core of the pet line; doubles as an Elise-unlock grinder | ★★★★★ |
| Full of Energy | Safety net for early clears; doubles error budget on 2-heart Agents | ★★★★☆ |
| Fire Support | Dedicated tool for farming James's weapon unlock | ★★★☆☆ |
The Evolve Tree: Node Categories and Page Gates
Fate Cards are only one branch of the Evolve Tree, the container for all permanent meta unlocks. The tree has 59 nodes across 5 pages, grouped into four categories:
| Category | Nodes | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Rule | 22 | Weaving Fate, Mercy of Fate, Blackdog Patch, hidden rooms, chest roulette |
| Room | 15 | Fishing room, gachapon room, brick room, treasure room |
| Object | 15 | Resource barrels, gift machines, rainbow chests, Hatchmon colorizer |
| Faith | 7 | Path of Faith, Agapeism, Artisanism, Consumerism, and more |
How it runs:
- Every Evolve Level grants 1 Evolve Point; the cap is level 41 for 40 points total, but all 59 nodes cost 1 point each — you cannot light everything, so choices matter (XP math below).
- Pages have hard gates: page 2 requires all 14 page-1 nodes, page 3 requires all 28 nodes of pages 1–2, and so on. What you take on page 1 directly determines how fast you reach late-tree content.
Evolve XP and Leveling Pace
XP comes only from boss rooms: each floor boss grants 100 + 5 × floor², with a difficulty multiplier on clear — Easy ×1, Normal ×1.25, Hard ×1.5, Abyss ×1.8.
| Level band | XP per level | Cumulative XP |
|---|---|---|
| 1 → 2 | 100 | 100 |
| 2 → 20 | 200 | 3,700 |
| 20 → 40 | 300 | 9,700 |
| 40 → 41 | 350 | 10,050 |
Rough math: a full Normal clear across 5 floors pays
(105 + 120 + 145 + 180 + 225) × 1.25 ≈ 969XP, so the first 19 levels take about 4 full clears — which lines up almost exactly with the first-10-hours window below.
How Faith Nodes Interact with Fate Cards
The Faith system hangs on the same tree, and the two systems feed each other:
- Path of Faith on page 1 is the foundation: once lit, a Pillar of Faith spawns at the starting room of each floor, letting you choose and activate a Faith's mechanics. Your starting Faith is Consumerism.
- Agapeism on page 2 is themed around Hatchmon and pet eggs: once activated it appears randomly at Pillars of Faith, and its effect guarantees pet egg hatching — ending the heartbreak of failed hatches from the first game.
- Choosing a Faith is choosing a build direction. The official Faith–Agent pairings:
| Faith | Recommended Agent |
|---|---|
| Consumerism, Fortunism | Nik |
| Agapeism | Elise |
| Umbrism | Xuan |
| Artisanism | James, Saya |
| Thesaurism, Consumerism | Lucia |
The Temple of Artisanism is the best-value Faith purchase known: a single Vaporize of a weapon nearly refills the Faith gauge and hands you a bonus weapon — one temple visit, double payout. Paired with the Fire Support Fate Card (free opening weapon), the Artisanism line lets James and Saya run a clean loop: opening weapon → Vaporize it for Faith → claim the free weapon.
Why Vaporize is central to the meta loop
Vaporize converts a weapon into Faith progress, and the Temple of Artisanism pays back a weapon on top. That means a Vaporize is rarely a loss: you trade one gun for a nearly full gauge plus a replacement. Fire Support guarantees the ammo for this engine exists on floor 1 with zero RNG.
Recommended Route for the First 10 Hours of a New Save
Pulling the systems above into an executable order:
- Hours 0–2 — Lay the foundation. First two points go to Path of Faith and Weaving Fate. The former adds a global decision point on every floor; the latter literally opens the Fate Card system, without which your Fate Points have nowhere to go.
- Hours 2–4 — Buy error tolerance. Add Mercy of Fate (your main Fate Point income during the loss-streak phase), Blackdog Patch (3 defeats grant a random item pack — steady early value), and Challenge Room Protection (a lethal challenge failure teleports you back to the entrance at half a heart instead of killing the run).
- Hours 4–6 — Close out page 1's 14 nodes. Prioritize functional unlocks like hidden rooms and the guaranteed-Relic first crystal node to open page 2 as fast as possible. Spend Evolve Points on exploration and economy nodes; skip pure novelty rooms.
- Hours 6–8 — Open Agapeism + the Gift line. On page 2 take Agapeism for guaranteed hatching and start banking progress toward "hatch 8 Hatchmon to unlock Elise" every run; grab Gift of Clotho (+1 starting Fate Point) along the way.
- Hours 8–10 — Snowball. Once Elise is in your roster, keep Adorable Companion slotted permanently (2 Hatchmon at the start, and Warming scales with pet count). Then backfill Full of Energy for your 2-heart Agents, or run Fire Support on Easy clears to farm James.
One-line summary: light the foundation nodes first (Path of Faith, Weaving Fate), then ride the highest-yield line — Agapeism → Elise → the Hatchmon card — instead of spreading points evenly. Every page-1 node you pick is a vote on how soon you reach pages 2–5.
