Scope and the state of the compendium
Neon Abyss 2's item system is enormous: current game data holds 613 items (412 Artefacts, 85 Curios, 58 Relics, plus pickups, Badges, sets and Agent-exclusive items). There is no official in-game compendium, and no official list of names has been published — this table is the verifiable subset.
How this table is scoped:
- Grouped by the five officially named categories: Curios / Artefacts / Relics / Hexjars / Oddities. Category definitions are on the Items & Synergy page.
- Effect summaries follow the current in-game text. Item effects change between patches, so where an older announcement disagrees with the live game, the live game wins.
- Drop locations and trigger probabilities come from game data.
- Hexjars and Oddities have only had their category names and a handful of entries published; unknown fields are left as
—rather than guessed. - Base-game items only. Content added by the Archenemy Returns DLC and later patches will be folded in as it ships.
Naming differences
Some names used on our Items & Synergy page come from the January 2026 Glimmer Heist announcement and differ from the live in-game English names. This table uses the live names: Kane's Cube → Cain Cube, Glass Die → Glass Dice, Cosmic Pouch → Cosmic Bag, Royal Ring → Ring of Regal Majesty, Purity Sigil → Sanctity Sigils. They are the same items.
Curios
Curios are active items triggered by spending crystals, most with a cooldown. Crystals are the scarcest universal currency in the game, so the question with every Curio is always "does spending this crystal produce a net gain?"
| Name | Effect | Category | Tag |
|---|---|---|---|
| AC Remote | Spend 2 crystals to inflict Chilled (reduced move and attack speed) on every enemy in the room; 1 s cooldown | Curio | Control · Curio (damage) pool |
| Cain Cube | Spend 5 crystals to convert Relics in the room into Artefacts; 2 s cooldown | Curio | Conversion · Curio pool |
| Glass Dice | Spend 5 crystals to duplicate any item in the room as a new item of the same type; 2 s cooldown | Curio | Conversion · Curio pool |
| Cosmic Bag | Spend 2 crystals to vacuum up nearby drops; once it has absorbed enough, it produces an Artefact; 1 s cooldown | Curio | Economy · Curio (resource) pool |
| Express Box | Spend 5 crystals to pack up every item in the room; using it again releases them | Curio | Logistics · Curio (resource) pool |
| Drifting Bottle | Spend 2 crystals to store up to 30 unopened chests; using it again releases them all | Curio | Logistics · Curio (resource) pool |
| Golden Dice | Spend 3 crystals to reroll every item in the room — occasionally an item simply vanishes; 1 s cooldown | Curio | Reroll · Curio pool |
| Ancient Cauldron | Spend 5 crystals to drop a random Relic; 1 s cooldown | Curio | Acquisition · Curio pool |
| Austerity Nail | Spend 3 crystals and take damage to raise your Faith gauge; 0.5 s cooldown | Curio | Faith · Curio pool |
| Heart Lunchbox | Hearts picked up at full health are stored (up to 4); spend 1 crystal to take one out | Curio | Survival · Curio (resource) pool |
| Portable Flask | Spend 2 crystals for +50% crit chance for 10 seconds; 10 s cooldown | Curio | Crit · Curio pool |
| Laser Goggles | Spend 3 crystals and your next attack fires a sustained laser toward your aim; 1 s cooldown | Curio | Damage · Curio (damage) pool |
| Polymorph Spell | Spend 2 crystals to turn nearby enemies into harmless sheep; 1 s cooldown | Curio | Control · Curio (control) pool |
Value note: conversion and acquisition Curios — Cain Cube, Glass Dice, Ancient Cauldron — are the highest-return crystal spends, because they turn one crystal into an item worth far more. Utility Curios like AC Remote and Polymorph Spell only pay off in specific rooms; don't burn crystals on them out of habit.
Artefacts
Artefacts are passive stat and mechanic modifiers and they are the bulk of any build. Many drop from themed pools (Hatchmon, bomb, egg, key and so on), and completing a themed set triggers a set bonus — the piece requirement can be reduced by specific items.
| Name | Effect | Category | Tag |
|---|---|---|---|
| Firecracker | +2 bombs; thrown bombs have a chance to drop a chest | Artefact | Bomb · Basic / Bomb pool |
| Ghost Proxy | +15% weapon damage, small movement speed increase | Artefact | Power · Boss pool |
| Qiankun Ring | Grants an orbiting focus: blocks bullets, damages on contact, speeds up all orbiting objects | Artefact | Offence/defence · Basic pool |
| Ring of Regal Majesty | Every set requires 2 fewer pieces to complete | Artefact | Set · Basic pool |
| Sanctity Sigils | Damage bonus scales with Faith; at a full gauge, +1 projectile | Artefact | Faith · Basic pool |
| Cat Food | +1 heart container, plus 1 heart, 1 key, 1 bomb and 10 coins | Artefact | Survival · Boss reward / temple shop |
| Marine Suit | Entering a boss room grants a barrier, +1 heart and +1 shield | Artefact | Defence · Basic pool |
| Bouncing Betty | +5 bombs (data shows +6); activating a jump pad drops bouncing bombs | Artefact | Bomb · Bomb pool |
| Boundless Blindfold | Crits can create a 3-second damage-immune field; always triggers when near death | Artefact | Crit · Not in item pools |
| Bottle Rose | Breaking obstacles can reveal a wild Hatchmon (35% per attempt, guaranteed within 5); catchable by spending resources | Artefact | Hatchmon · Hatchmon pool |
| Goose Pillow | While holding more than 5 eggs, every egg picked up advances hatching by an extra step | Artefact | Hatchmon · Egg / Hatchmon pool |
| Matryoshka Doll | Failed hatches spawn a floating stone; when you have no eggs, it supplies a silver egg | Artefact | Hatchmon · Not in item pools |
| Maya Tombstone | Opening crates can drop a bonus key (30% on the first, diminishing on repeats) | Artefact | Key · Not in item pools |
| Absolute Zero | Killed enemies can leave poison gas at their position (at most once every 5 s) | Artefact | Damage · Basic pool |
| Celestial Ribbon | Killed enemies can drop flying hearts or shields; chance rises sharply when near death | Artefact | Survival · Athena pool |
| Last Hope | At the end of combat, refills half a shield if you have none | Artefact | Survival · Athena pool |
| Blue Watch | Summons the Super Hatchmon Dr. Blue, who picks up hearts and converts them into shield drops | Artefact | Hatchmon · Athena pool |
| Energy Cube | Activating a teleport stone drops a shield or rotten heart and raises shield drop rate | Artefact | Survival · Athena pool |
| Mine Candle | Breaking obstacles can drop a bomb or bomb bag (counter resets each floor, at most once every 3 s) | Artefact | Bomb · Not in item pools |
| Gramophone | Drops a random Wonder Hexjar; from then on, using any Hexjar also triggers the previous Hexjar's effect | Artefact | Hexjar synergy · Not in item pools |
Build note: Ring of Regal Majesty is the keystone of the whole Artefact set system — any "chase set bonuses" route should take it first. Sanctity Sigils plus a Faith line outperforms ordinary damage items, making it top priority for Faith builds.
Relics
Relics rewrite how the run works rather than adding numbers. Any one of them can invalidate half your build, so read the full text before picking one up.

| Safety Helmet | Immune to environmental damage | Relic | Defence · Relic pool |
| Platinum Trophy | Arcade rooms appear more often; doors can be opened by touching them | Relic | Exploration · Relic pool |
| Beggar's Certificate | When crystals, keys and bombs are all at 0, drops a supply chest (once per floor) | Relic | Economy · Not in item pools |
| Longevity Lock | Chance of extra heart drops after combat (resets each floor) | Relic | Survival · Not in item pools |
Three rule-changing Relics to think about first
- Eternal Stone switches hatching off, which kills any Hatchmon build. For a non-hatching build it's a straight win — eggs become sellable resources.
- Ark Reactor turns hearts into shields, swapping your healing system for a shield system. Check whether your build has any heart-dependent pieces before taking it.
- Philosopher's Stone removes your Soul Shard source and rewrites weapon levelling entirely. It only suits runs that prioritise Artefact density.
Hexjars
Hexjars are the fifth officially confirmed category: jars you charge with a resource (weapon experience, Faith, body size and so on). The full list is unpublished, and the English game data doesn't tag them separately, so these are the currently verifiable entries:
| Name | Effect | Category | Tag |
|---|---|---|---|
| Candle Jar | Accumulates Faith; pairs with Faith-scaled damage items such as Sanctity Sigils for a high-Faith, multi-projectile route | Hexjar | Faith |
| Wonder Hexjar | A random Hexjar dropped by the Gramophone Artefact; while you hold the Gramophone, using any Hexjar also triggers the previous Hexjar's effect | Hexjar | Hexjar synergy |
How to judge one: look at which resource the Hexjar charges. Faith-charging jars connect directly to Sanctity Sigils and Incense Burner-style Relics. Weapon-experience or size jars pay off most in a run whose weapon route isn't locked in yet.
Oddities
Oddities are high-variance one-off weirdness — big wins or big losses. Only the category name and the entries below have been published:
| Name | Effect | Category | Tag |
|---|---|---|---|
| Goblin Chest | Throw it at an item: it may duplicate it, or confiscate it outright | Oddity | High variance · Duplicate/confiscate |
| Goose | Taking a hit summons an attacking flock of geese | Oddity | High variance · Damage-triggered |
Whether to gamble: an Oddity is only worth taking when you can afford to lose — spare item slots and a build that's already online. In the early game, when slots are tight, a reliable Artefact beats a coin flip.
Drop pools
The data's "Found in" field decides which pools an item can come from. Understanding the pool structure helps at branch choices:
| Pool | Meaning and typical output |
|---|---|
| Basic pool | The workhorse pool for ordinary rooms and chests; general-purpose Artefacts |
| Boss pool | Boss room rewards, weighted toward enhancement Artefacts |
| Relic pool / Curio pool | General drop pools for those categories; the Curio pool further splits into damage, resource and control sub-pools |
| Athena pool | Tied to the Athena Faith temple; weighted toward survival and Hatchmon items |
| Themed pools (bomb / egg / Hatchmon / key, etc.) | Only appear in matching themed rooms or chests — the main route to completing sets deliberately |
| Not in item pools | Obtained from achievements, set bonuses or special events; you cannot farm rooms for them |
Practical decision paths
- Crystal budget: at the start of each floor, decide what crystals are for — Curio conversion (Cain Cube, Glass Dice), or skills and door-opening. Conversion Curios always beat utility Curios on expected value, so when crystals are tight, spend them only on items that create something from nothing.
- Read Relics before taking them: ask whether this run depends on the rule the Relic changes. If it does, skip it; if it doesn't, it's a free rule advantage.
- Prioritise set compression: once you have Ring of Regal Majesty, themed rooms (bomb rooms, Hatchmon rooms) go up in value across the board, and your routing should lean toward them.
- The Faith trio: Austerity Nail (crystals → Faith) + Sanctity Sigils (Faith → damage and projectiles) + Incense Burner or Wooden Fish (faster accumulation). With all three, your Faith gauge is effectively permanently full.
- Pick one information Relic: Silver Compass for speed-runs (full layout), Treasure Radar when you're short on resources (special rooms), Treasure Map for challenge and hidden content. If all three appear, take one — the effects overlap heavily.
- Near-death synergies: Boundless Blindfold and Celestial Ribbon both trigger far more often when you're near death, so on a low-heart Agent they turn a red health bar into an offensive window.
